Where the First Grammar of Any Modern European Language Was Written
In 1492, Antonio de Nebrija presented the Gramática de la lengua castellana to Queen Isabella in Salamanca—the very first printed grammar of the Spanish language and of any modern European tongue.
Today, thousands of international scholars travel to Salamanca annually to learn Castilian Spanish. The University of Salamanca sets the benchmark for DELE and SIELE exams worldwide in partnership with Instituto Cervantes.
